Welcome to People In Need, Inc. of Delaware County, Ohio (PIN)
We help Delaware County residents with immediate emergency needs possibly created by job loss, break-up of the family, illness, death, or other unexpected financial emergencies.
We do not believe we are solving all of the people's problems by simply handing out food or paying utility bills. We see the immediate emergency need as a symptom and not the problem. Our role is to provide assistance with the immediate need and to take a look at the total needs of the family unit. We work with the family or individual to identify appropriate referrals, using all available community resources.
HUNGER IN DELAWARE COUNTY
People In Need has been working with the Mid Ohio Foodbank and many other organizations on a series of meetings to look at and adress the issue of hunger in Delaware County. As a part of that effort, a number of PIN clients agreed to tell their stoies on tape. The attached video was produced to put real faces and real stories to the issue that PIN deals with every day. It is a powerful presentation that helps to explain better than any statistic or figure why we do what we do and why your help is so critical.
Did you know….
In the first year of operation which was 1981, PIN provided food to 535 people through the food pantry.
In fiscal year 2012 (July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012), PIN supplied assistance to over 17,000 individuals in Delaware County at a direct cost of nearly $425,000.
Volunteers donate over 6,500 hours of time every year.
Volunteers help with food sorting, food pantry preparation and distribution, administration and special events and are the lifeblood of PIN. The 2012 Holiday Clearing House provided food, new clothes, new toys and gifts for 464 families (1,071 children and 730 adults) and 206 homebound senior/disabled residents.
83% of the people accessing our services are employeed or have a stable source of income but are unable to make ends meet.
